In this Case, Electricity and Magnetics are Quite Happy Together
Eddy current inspection uses two physical phenomena and combines them into one NDE method. A current is passed through a coil which produces a magnetic field around the coil which is then brought near the conductive test surface. This produces an opposing current in the material. When the currents are brought next to or over a flaw, the material currents try to bend down around the defect which changes the original ratio of opposition. The screen shows this change in ratio so that the technician can analyze the changes.
